Invasive pest bird species are one of the most significant and underappreciated drivers of native wildlife decline worldwide. Starlings, pigeons, mynas, sparrows and other pest species outcompete native birds for nesting sites and food, spread disease, contaminate water supplies and cause billions in annual damage to agriculture and infrastructure.
Avian Pest Control was founded to address this problem with precision engineering and a clear environmental philosophy: the goal is not eradication — it is balance. By humanely managing pest bird numbers to sustainable levels, we create the ecological space that struggling native species need to recover and thrive.

Humane Methodology
Gradual CO₂ sedation followed by authorised euthanasia is the most humane pest bird management method available. CO₂ is the sole sedation agent — introduced slowly at a calibrated rate so the bird simply becomes drowsy and loses consciousness without pain or distress. Non-target species are never at risk.

A Fig Tree in Sydney. No Good Solution.
In 2024, I was living in a Sydney apartment beneath a large fig tree — one of those unexpected urban gifts. Brush turkeys, sulphur-crested cockatoos, magpies and kookaburras were regular visitors to the canopy.
Then a group of Indian mynas moved in. Within weeks the dynamic had shifted. The mynas harassed the native birds relentlessly — competing for food, mobbing nesting sites, making the area progressively less hospitable. One by one, the natives stopped coming.
I started looking for solutions. What I found was disappointing — rudimentary cage traps, community Facebook groups, and a local council with no meaningful tools or authority to act. There was no technology that could identify the problem species with certainty, manage it humanely at scale, and operate within the regulatory frameworks that exist to protect native wildlife.
That gap is why Avian Pest Control exists — to give land managers, conservation operators and government agencies the precision, accountability and humaneness the problem demands.
As a postscript: the kookaburras eventually took matters into their own hands. They began raiding the myna nests — attacking eggs and disrupting breeding cycles until the colony relocated. Nature found a partial answer, but displacement is not control. It did nothing to reduce the population or relieve pressure on native species in the wider area.
The founding observation: a single myna colony displacing brush turkeys, cockatoos, magpies and kookaburras from an established urban habitat within weeks of arrival.
No technology existed that could identify pest species with certainty, manage them humanely at scale, and operate within wildlife protection regulations. That is the problem the APC-N8 is built to solve.
The goal is not eradication. It is balance — humanely managing invasive pest populations to create ecological space for native species to recover.
