About the Eurasian Collared-Dove

Originally native to Europe and southern Asia, the Eurasian collared-dove has undergone one of the most rapid range expansions of any bird species in recorded history. Introduced to the Bahamas in the 1970s, it colonised the entire continental USA and Canada within 30 years and is now established across Mexico and the Caribbean.

Why it's a pest

Dominates urban feedlots, grain silos and agricultural storage facilities, consuming and contaminating grain. Displaces native dove and pigeon populations through competitive exclusion. Carries avian paramyxovirus (Newcastle disease), posing a biosecurity risk to commercial poultry operations. Dense urban populations generate significant noise disturbance.

A dole / dule of doves

From the Latin word for grief (dolor), inspired by the melancholy, mournful sound of their repetitive cooing.

A flight of doves

Describes their rapid, direct aerial transit, often seen when a group is flushed from a feeding site.

How the APC-N1 and APC-N8 manages Eurasian Collared-Dove

At approximately 320 mm, the eurasian collared-dove fits a T2 — Medium tunnel (100 × 400 × 500 mm). The tunnel is the physical entry point — sized precisely to admit the target species while excluding larger non-target birds. Species-specific attractant bait draws the eurasian collared-dove into the detection zone inside the tunnel, where AI computer vision confirms species identity at 99.7% accuracy. Once confirmed, CO₂ is introduced gradually into the chamber; the bird becomes drowsy and loses consciousness without pain or distress. Euthanasia follows only after explicit authorisation from a licensed operator, and the specimen is stored in the integrated freezing chamber with a full compliance audit trail.

The T2 — Medium tunnel is available on the APC-N1 and APC-N8both units carry this tunnel size as a standard configuration.
